About Me

As an only child growing up in a single-parent household, I learned the importance of hard work at a very early age. I have always been a curious person who wants to find answers to questions that aren’t easily understood. I strongly value vulnerability and honesty in my work. Growing up in the close-knit community of New Westminster, I developed a strong appreciation for the city and the value of community. I strive to find and cover local stories that aren’t being heard.

I have done lots of volunteer with a Not-for-profit organization; Burnaby Neighborhood House. Through volunteering, I attended and worked at community events and schools in their daycare programs. I love connecting with members of the community and learning their stories. I met so many inspiring individuals and began to appreciate how diverse the community is. As a journalist, I want to share more of those diverse stories with the world.

Throughout high school, every term I was awarded an outstanding work ethic award. This is given to students who teachers felt displayed a hardworking skillset throughout their course. These awards helped me reinforce the value of hard work and the benefit of applying it in all aspects of my life. In 2018 I was selected to be a Horatio Alger Scholar. This award is given to graduating high school students across Canada who is planning to attend post-secondary the following year. This award is given to individuals who have faced adversity through their lives but still come through it all and exceed academically.

As a storyteller, I want to tell the stories that aren’t being covered by many (if at all). As a community-based journalist, many stories could be brought to life and I would love to be the one to do that.
